Description
An amazing handwritten Tombstone, Arizona document dated January 5, 1886. This booklet, marked “Duplicate”is the Annual Relief Report for the Cochise Lodge No. 5, I.O.O.F. (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) with the term ending December 31, 1886. The report reveals the inner workings of one of the many fraternal organizations that were in Tombstone. It lists the names of the eleven brothers of the Past Grand Degree, sixty-three brothers of the Third Degree, one brother of the First Degree, and two brothers of the Initiatory Degree. The names listed are a virtual who's who of Tombstone at the time. It is comprised of many miners, businessmen, politicos, and even some local peace officers. The report gives the dollar amounts taken in and expended for the Lodge and is hand signed on the last page by G.S. Bradshaw, J.F. Kearney, B.A. Fickas, and Wm. D. Monmonier. A very important and impressive Tombstone document. This string-tied booklet has 20 prenumbered pages and some are blank. My photos show the front and back covers when the booklet is closed (9 ¾”H x 3 ¾” W) as well as some photos taken with the booklet open (9 ¾”H x 7 ½”). The front and back cover photos appear pink in color but they are not.

ORIGINAL 'PASSPORT TO CAVEMAN DOMAIN, FRAN COOPE UNITED NATIONS YOUTH PILGRIMAGE; SPONSORED BY I.O.O.F. JUNE 10, 1951 - OREGON CAVEMEN INC GRANTS PASS, ORE. CHIEF BIGHORN HIS MARK' PIG JAW BONE
This is just a great original piece. Quite possibly this is a one of a kind piece of Americana. When I first saw it, I thought it was an incredible piece of historic memorabilia and wanted to know more about it. First off, this piece comes from the Grants Pass Oregon Cavemen Inc. This was a group of business owners in Grants Pass who decided in 1922 to dress up as Cavemen to promote the tourism and caves of Josephine County. They would show up at local events dressed as cavemen and become a great big hit. I have tried to research this piece and found some historical pieces from around this piece and they are in great demand, though nothing that I have found is anything like this. First off, I think this is an original pig jaw bone. Measures about 13 x 8 inches and even has most of the original teeth. It is hand painted and lettered with all the details about what this comes from. Obviously it was from a United Nations Youth Pilgrimage which was sponsored by the International Order of Odd Fellows back in 1951. It even has the original Oregon Cavemen Inc information as well. Really about as good of a relic as you are going to get from this unique and original place. Even has the original leather strap that this would have been carried with. Do your own research on this piece. See if you can find another or anything even close. Really a great piece of vintage Americana. Free shipping anywhere in the United States.
